The summer of 2019 is when the idea of renovating our existing cottage became a reality here at Irishtown House.
We made our second trip to Worcester Premier Charollais Sheep Sales and booked our self catering accommodation with Chris and Mark. Enjoying the freedom of the stay, meeting wonderful people and getting to know the locality and thus the seed was sown.
The renovation was a labour of love and would not have been possible but for the wonderful work of our team.
Irishtown House was featured on The Independent Weekend Travel by Nicola Brady in an article titled “25 creative staycations: Beat the crowds (and high prices) with these innovative home-holiday ideas” on 27th February 2021
“This beautiful stable conversion opened last year, and looks like it’s straight out of a Nancy Meyers movie. Filled with light and gorgeous little fixtures, this is a place where you can forget all about the piles of laundrey and broken doorknobs at home. While they don’t accommodate children under 12, it’s proved a popular spot for families with teenagers, who head out on the Royal Canal Greenway or Derrymore Springs nearby.”

We arrived late, and Dora had baked a beautiful selection of treats to welcome us. Our breakfast was in the fridge ready for the next morning including a freshly baked loaf. Dora & Liam were so welcoming, nothing was too much and we really felt completely at home.
Just a short stroll away was a lake and the Greenway by the canal - a cycle and walking route through the heart of the countryside.
I can't recommend this beautiful getaway highly enough.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!

On a personal note thank you so much Dora for your warm welcome and kindness. I dont get away very often so this was a real treat.

We rented the newly converted stables along with our best friends, to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday and from the first contact I had with Dora, I knew we were were in good hands! She was so helpful with the planning of our visit, and even before we arrived I was confident we had made the right decision in booking here.
We were blown away when we arrived to see the trouble she had gone to to make the occasion special for Alan! She had made a fabulous Victoria sponge cake with fresh strawberries, the table was decorated with a 60th Birthday Balloon & sparkles, and there was even a card and a personal gift for him that was truly unexpected.
The attention to detail and the hospitality continued throughout our stay. Although they kept to themselves we knew that Liam or Dora were on hand if we wanted any advice, and if we needed anything we only had to ask and it appeared!
I loved the quality of the furnishings throughout the property, and you can tell that no expense has been spared to make this a really luxurious home away from home. The beds are so comfortable, as are the pillows and duvets. The bedlinen is of excellent quality and of course the decor/style is just perfection in each and every room!
On a practical level, the house is very well insulated so it is cosy and easy to heat. Every radiator is thermostatically controlled so you can adjust the temperature in the different rooms and if you prefer your bedroom cooler at night just can turn the heat off altogether. The Velux roof windows keep the interior lovely and bright during the day, but with electrically operated blinds you can plunge the bedroom into almost total darkness at night, which makes it perfect for a long lie on a sunny morning!
There's plenty of hot water for the shower (which is pumped, so plenty of pressure!) and that was with 4 of us getting spruced up in the evenings!
The area outside has been designed so that the people renting The Stables have lots of private space to enjoy. There's a place to park, and a choice of areas to sit, either in the wooded area or beside the house if you want to enjoy the sunshine.
The road outside is very quiet, so lovely for a stroll from the house down to the nearby lake, or if you have bicycles (as we did) it's very pleasant to cycle around the country lanes and only about 10-15 minutes if you want to go into town without your car. We spent every day accessing the wonderful Greenways that intersect Mullingar, with choices to ride along the Old Rail Trail or the fabulous Royal Canal that runs for almost 150kms from Dublin to Longford.
To summarise, I would say that The Stables is the perfect place to stay if you enjoy your creature comforts and want to relax in a beautiful rural setting, which is still only a few kilometres from the charming town of Mullingar. It is definitely the best property I have ever stayed at and I really do hope to return again.
